Breast Mass

A breast mass or lump is a growth of breast tissue. Most breast masses are not cancer (benign) and may be caused by a breast cyst (fluid-filled sac in breast tissue), fibroadenoma (firm, solid benign mass), lipoma (slow-growing, fatty mass), fibrocystic breast (rope-like breast tissue which may cause discomfort before menstruation), galactocele (milk-filled cyst), and mastitis (infection of the breast usually related to nursing). Unfortunately, some breast masses may be a sign of breast cancer.
